The Bachelorette

July 16, 2009 · 1 Comment

Earlier this week I was fortunate enough to be a guest on Shaw Cable’s Urban Rush with Michael Eckford and Fiona Forbes. I had so much fun with them, they really do make a guest feel comfortable and I certainly appreciated their sense of humour and very real approach to interviewing.  In 8 minutes we briefly discussed Social Media versus face to face socializing, online dating and the Bachelorette. Because we only skimed th surface I’d like to share my thoughts about the Bachelorette.

First off, let me say that I do appreciate the attraction to watching The Bachelorette or The Bachelor. It has become a guilty pleasure to alotof singles and couples and it certainly is entertaining. How many of us wouldn’t want 18 or so singles vying for our attention?  Being taken on some of the most exciting dates and romantic  locations, you would think it would be very exciting and rewarding. But would  it really?  I feel sorry for Gillian trying to weed through the men she has been matched with, how on earth can she manage to keep their personal information straight,or even their names.  No wonder Jason from last season, was so confused,  he picked one girl and than changed his mind after the show. We all were appalled at his confusion,  but seriously how on earth could you possibly know enough about someone in that little amount of time to make that kind of a life altering decision?

I could not in any way shape or form know enough about a person in that amount of time even dating and only one person, never mind 18. Remember individually they only get a very small amount of time alone and the dates can be weeks apart and there are 18 other people wooing her at the same time. My head is spinning just trying to comprehend the whole thing. Imagine being on the other side, one of the many men trying to impress her, and that is exactly what they are doing. She has no idea what these men are really like when the fantasy dates stop and reality kicks in and they start leaving their socks all over the place. :)  Imagine if you actually were attracted to her,  never mind falling in love with her, would you want to know that she was kissing all those other guys as well as you?  YUCK!!!  If I was one of those guys I couldn’t do it and I have never considered myself a jealous person. If she has chemistry with more than one person, how confusing and she must otherwise how could she kiss them all?  I don’t know about you but Ican’t kiss anyone that I don’t have chemistry with. There is a reason that hookers don’t kiss on the lips, because it is so intimate. I personally love kissing and consider it a lost art, but with one person at a time.

I wish Gillian all the luck in the world trying to find Mr. Right out of the men she was matched with. But sadly I don’t have very much faith in her finding a lasting relationship on the Bachelorette. We shall see shortly I guess, maybe she will prove me wrong and if it works, I apologize here and now.  But if things don’t work out, Gillian please feel free to give me a call and maybe I can find Mr. Right for you, but we will have to agree to one match at a time.  :)

PS. I must have done something right on Urban Rush, they have kindly invited me back.  I will be back on Urban Rush Sept. 9th. YEAH!!! I am so looking forward to it. Fiona, Mike and the Urban Rush crew rock, please join us. They air at 5, 7, 11pm and then again the next day at 12 noon on Shaw cable channel.
